If you’re not Danish, you might not know that Brüel & Kjær is one of the leaders in the world of sound and vibration. But if you have anything to do with that world – anywhere in the world – you’ve definitely heard of them. (So to speak.)
I knew about Brüel & Kjær’s reputation when they contacted me to write for them, but I hadn’t a clue about all the nerdy, necessary and noteworthy work they do. That made it both a challenge and a pleasure to dive into the first article I wrote for them: about an acoustic system that uses the Internet of Things and machine learning to reduce noise from downtown concert venues while not interfering with the concert experience itself. And while taking into account everything from weather conditions, to the type of music, to the landscape.
Since then, I’ve written a follow-up article on the first topic (their cover story), as well as an article on Hyundai and Brüel & Kjær’s collaboration to create a Personalized Engine Sound System.
Fascinating stuff!
Recently, Brüel & Kjær merged with another company to create a new entity called HBK – still waiting to hear whether the magazine will survive.
